Q: Do you have a tried and true, homemade stain removal method for everyday stains?- Amber Price
A: I do! I use this method instead of using products like Oxi-Clean. And of course, I rely on what I know works- vinegar and baking soda. (Remember way back in the day when you made that volcano for your science fair project and you added a mix of baking soda and vinegar to make an eruption of "lava?" Yeah.) Folks have been using this combo to get out stains for quite some time. I didn't invent it, but I sure swear by it.
When I have some dingy, dirty laundry with everyday stains (say a Little was playing outside or I'm faced with the yucky, sweat stained clothes of summer or someone had a particularly difficult time eating a meal), I place the clothes in the washing machine and let it fill with water. I add 1/4 cup vinegar and then, 2 tablespoons baking soda. I let that soak for about 20 minutes and then, add laundry detergent as usual and complete the wash cycle. I very rarely have to apply other stain removal methods to individual articles of clothing after doing this soak with plain old vinegar and baking soda.
