This recipe is just for my friend, Nita, who requested it recently! I own a Breadman Plus machine and like it very much. This recipe makes a two pound loaf of bread. You can get 16 thick slices or 32 thin slices from it, not including the crusts. (The thin slices have about 72 calories each.) I bake one to two loaves a week, depending on what's on our schedule. Naturally, I bake more during the summer months when we eat more sammies. I adapted this recipe from one I found in a bread machine cookbook from the library back in Mobile. Hope you like it, friends.
Peace, B.
I blogged about baking bread and if it was cost effective in August, 2010. You can find that post here.
Place the following ingredients in the bread machine pan in this order: 1 and 1/2 cups water; 2 tablespoons softened butter; 2 cups bread flour; 2 cups whole wheat flour; 3 tablespoons powdered milk; 2 tablespoons sugar; 2 teaspoons salt; and 1 and 1/2 teaspoons dry active yeast. (Make a little well in the dry ingredients for the yeast, pour it into the well, and then cover it with the dry ingredients.)
Select basic or white cycle on your machine; 2 pounds; and medium or light crust color. I store my bread in a plastic container with an airtight seal. I don't know how long the shelf life is on this as it never sits around for more than 5 or 6 days in my house.
